Some residents of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have lamented the poor presence of banks in the area.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Nassarawa Eggon that only one bank had opened a branch in the area without functional Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
Mr. Thomas Anzaku, a resident, appealed to the management of commercial banks to establish more banks, to boost the socio-economic activities of the area.
He said the establishment of more banks in the area would improve on the standard of living of the people.
“The importance of establishing banks in this town cannot be over-emphasised; apart from accepting deposits from customers, it will also give loans to customers to boost their businesses.
“It is unfortunate that this area, with its level of commercial activities, has only Union Bank in operation and without a functional ATM.
“It was only recently that the bank set up the ATMs that are not even functional.
“The existence of only one bank is affecting the people, especially business men and women, because of the risk involved in keeping money at home.
“Residents have resorted to banking in Lafia, the state capital due to non-availability of banks in this area,” he said.
