Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, was reacting to a recent SOS letter sent by Fayose to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase.
Fayose had in a letter dated May, which he personally signed, requested the IG’s special intervention in removing the fear the people of the state were experiencing following numerous cases of abductions of innocent people.
Reacting to the statement in a communiqué issued on Sunday, Falana, a native of Ekiti accused Governor Fayose of making Ekiti state friendly and comfortable for kidnappers.
Falana claimed that Fayose planned with the state government who shut the House of Assembly since November 2014 in a bid to forestall plans by the All Progressives Congress lawmakers to oust him.
The statement reads in part, “Last week, Mr. Ayo Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State was reported to have sent SOS to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, over the increasing wave of kidnapping sweeping across the state.
“In urging the police chief to attend promptly to the concern expressed by the governor, I am compelled to point out that the state government has itself to blame for deliberately providing official cover for armed gangs and other criminally-minded individuals who have taken over the monopoly of violence in Ekiti State”.
